Turning mobile risk into a reward for business

When employees first started bringing their own personal cell phones and other mobile devices to work, many managers didn't know what to do. Some businesses tried to keep the devices down by banning them; however, Paulo Ferreira of Samsung said companies can deploy mobile device management solutions to allow people to use their devices, without sacrificing security.
Ferreira told Gadget magazine that while companies can't control what type of mobile devices try to access their system, they can control who is granted access and what kind of corporate policies are in place. Companies that use mobile device management are able to identify any foreign users or devices in their system and are able to shut down devices as soon as a threat is detected.
"Mobile management processes will also ensure devices that are lost or stolen can have the data on them wiped, keeping corporate information safe," Ferreira said. "Additionally, a missing device can be locked and, in certain cases, it can also be traced."
