Citing users' privacy concerns, Facebook has launched a new page aimed at providing people with a resource to become more aware of their privacy controls, V3 reports.
The page serves as an informative guide for those who are confused about the new settings in addition to serving as a forum for user discussions.
Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's chief executive, was interviewed on Thursday at the All Things Digital conference, where he said "There's this misconception that Facebook is trying to make all the information open, and that's completely false," as reported by V3.
Many Facebook users have become so disenchanted with the website's privacy policy that some individuals created a "Quit Facebook Day" group, which claimed to have encouraged 34,000 people to shutdown their accounts, V3 relays.
In May, the California-based company received complaints from 15 consumer groups and letters from 30 European countries, complaining about the site's privacy settings, the Irish Times reports.
Facebook is one of many social networking sites that uses an open API interface to allow for greater sharing between websites and ease of use for application makers. Although open APIs have been fundamental to the growth of networking sites, they also can pose potential security risks.
