Cloud security about visibility and control

While some companies are worried about security in the cloud, one business founder is not alone in thinking the cloud is probably safer than what most small and mid-sized businesses have right now.
"Your data is probably safer with the vast majority of vendors than if you keep it on your premises," according to Christopher Primault, co-founder and managing director of GetApp.com, a business software marketplace. "I really believe it's true. We only use cloud services, so we were born in the cloud. The cost for me to keep data in-house and protect that data would be high. Frankly, by having my data in the cloud, I feel more secure."
About 85 percent of organizations using the cloud are confident or very confident in the cloud's security, according to recent research by CompTIA. Even so, some companies are afraid to put certain information in the cloud, sending mixed messages about how they feel about cloud computing security.
Confidential information is especially a tough pill to swallow, as 49 percent of small businesses were unwilling to put confidential information in the cloud. Small organizations may be worrying needlessly, as most cloud services agreements clearly outline the security measures and protocols in place to keep data safe.
