Agencies offer cloud computing companies guidelines for security
-
03/10/2010
The Cloud Security Alliance, European Network and Information Security Agency and the National Institute for Science and Technology recently published separate protocols for cloud computing security to ensure the safe development and growth of the industry. The remarks followed the urging of RSA president Art Coviello that cloud companies become more proactive in their security practices at last week's RSA Conference in San Francisco, California. The adjustments must be made quickly as Outsourcery reported recently that cloud computing is growing six times at fast as the traditional IT industry is. "Each one of these organizations has recently published objective guidelines for cloud operations and security. They have developed these thorough documents using input and comments from industry, academic and government experts," according to SearchSecurityChannel. "Cloud vendors need to realize that [the works of the three organizations] exist and will be used by their customers to grade and evaluate their cloud computing services." Goldman Sachs reported last month that global shift to cloud computing is inevitable at this point. For smaller companies and those with highly sensitive data to keep up, SaaS providers must understand the need for greater security that us both reliable and highly customizable.
