The United States Environmental Protection agency has recently endorsed more severe restrictions regarding the materials used in the manufacturing of products. Actio Corporation, a Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based producer of supply chain materials information management tools, has developed a program aimed at aiding companies in accurate material disclosure.
Material Disclosure software allows companies to accurately report their used products without spending large sums of money to do so by outsourcing IT. The process is entirely automated and makes communications between departments far easier.
The software also provides companies with accurate information regarding environmental regulations and updates them periodically as the regulations change and potential failures in regulatory compliance.
"New governmental initiatives in the U.S. such as EPA, TSCA and California Green Chemistry initiatives push product stewardship to a new level," said Russell McCann, Actio CEO. "The key to compliance is collecting granular data on all chemical substances in all ingredients in each product, then screening standardized measurements of each against chemical classifications and regulatory threshold limits."
The EPA has become increasingly vigilant recently. It was announced on Thursday that the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut was fined $12,900 for its handling of chemicals. On Wednesday, the EPA handed out a similar fine to a Rhode Island-based landlord for not informing tenants about lead paint use in their apartments.
