While there are no standard rules for how to adopt the cloud, the National Institute of Standards and Technology has a cloud computing technology road map trying to guide people toward the correct way of using the technology. Rutrell Yasin of GCN's website said the road map contains many useful tips for deployment.

Dawn Leaf, NIST's senior executive for cloud computing, said the roadmap provides tactics and strategies for implementing a cloud solution, such as asking cloud vendors to map their services with the guide for ease. Businesses looking to use cloud computing services can also focus on deployment and security with the roadmap.

Leaf said the technology is evolving so quickly that understanding how to properly adopt and use the cloud can sometimes be challenging. However, some cloud vendors will work hand-in-hand with companies to make sure they are making the most of their cloud deployment.

NIST said it created the roadmap to help further business and government adoption of the technology. The group hopes that more will use the cloud as standards and rules are established.
