Although endpoint security is important, one IT professional said monitoring security incidents in a bring your own device plan is key for making sure the program is locked down. Sanjay Poonen, president and corporate officer of global solutions and head of mobility divisions at SAP, told InformationWeek that better use of monitoring and cloud-based services can be key for BYOD security.

"Mobility is intricately linked to using cloud-based solutions," he told the news source. "Embracing cloud is a cost-effective option that enables businesses to ensure security. Moreover, in the BYOD era, security professionals will need to diligently monitor vulnerability announcements and security incidents involving mobile devices and respond appropriately with policy updates."

Poonen told InformationWeek that the industry is moving at a much faster pace than it ever has, with employees bringing in smartphones and tablets on a regular basis. IT departments must be ready for this growth with a proper security plan in place.

A recent survey by nCircle showed that a mere 62 percent of respondents do not have a plan in place for continuously monitoring their bring your own device program.
