With the iPad 3 expected to be released later this year and other devices picking up steam in the tablet industry, multiple platform mobile device management is more important for businesses than ever, according to Curt Finch, CEO and founder of Journyx. He said it is predicted the market for this type of management will grow to at least $500 million by 2014 and said companies should keep it in mind.

For the first step into mobile device management, Finch said companies should provide devices and enterprise persona.

"The first step in MDM is to give each device an enterprise persona by using an enterprise’s existing certificate authority to secure the device, which leverages security and network investments already made by an IT department," Finch said. "This gives IT teams peace of mind when it comes to securing and supporting enterprise mobile devices."

Following that, companies should practice active management of these devices and use it to reduce service plan outages. This should help save a company money and be a boost for efficiency.

Notify Technology said companies need to think about issues surrounding how mobile device management can help, including managing the large amount of devices, the increasing use of different apps and the growing complexity of mobile devices and how it can affect security.
