Parks Associates recently released a report documenting the growing need for data storage and backup options.

Network-attached storage is predicted to surpass $4.4 billion in 2014, which shows many businesses are finding online backup solutions in the cloud.

Consumers are also realizing the benefits of having a recovery solution, as the report found 50 percent of households currently perform a backup strategy, either through an external storage drive, online backup or a flash drive.

Pietro Macchiarella, research analyst for Parks Associates, said “as people accumulate more digital content, the prospect of losing that data becomes more ominous.” Macchiarella advises online storage companies to target users with large volumes of music and video files, as they are the most likely to want a recovery option for all their material.

Although Macchiarella said the majority of consumers still rely on less efficient methods of backup, such as CDs and DVDs, many are moving toward portable hard drives and cloud strategies for their storage needs.

For many companies, online backup strategies are the most efficient and practical solutions for data storage. Businesses that place all of their material on an in-house server risk losing it all if their servers crash or systems fail; however, organizations that choose a cloud solution have greater protection against data loss and more flexibility in how and where they access their information.ADNFCR-2553-ID-19898450-ADNFCR
