How to approach cloud computing as a small business

Small businesses have traditionally adopted advanced technology at a slower pace than larger businesses because SMBs don't have comparable financial resources. But with cloud computing, the playing field can be evened out a little bit.
However, just because an SMB may be able to afford a cloud solution doesn't mean it should do so blindly. Steven Ostrowski, spokesman for the Computing Technology Industry Association, told the Business Journals that there is no one-size-fits all cloud and it must be entered with care.
“With cloud computing, small companies can look like a big company because they have easy and affordable access to a broad expanse of applications and services that not long ago were available only to deep-pocketed large enterprises,” Ostrowski said in the news source. “The pay-as-you-go cloud model eliminates the startup costs associated with purchasing, maintaining and upgrading new IT hardware and software.”
Even so, he said businesses should look to carefully pick a service that works for them, make sure it is secure and the agreement with the provider makes sense financially.
IT Tech News Daily said businesses also need to weigh the risks of cloud computing versus what they have now and how the implementation will go. There are a number of secure and efficient options currently on the market, so it's important for businesses to take their time and find the best solution for their specific needs.
