Cloud computing could soon reduce costs for businesses, according to a new report from Hubspan.

A report by the company said businesses that continue to adopt the cloud will see benefits in cutting IT costs. Hubspan predicts the total cost of operation for any given business will be a big driver for cloud computing and cannot be matched by on-premises solutions.

Consumerization will also have a bigger effect on IT and the cloud in the next year, with companies striving to bring in more customers during hard economic times.

"Across industries and geographies, we will see companies make current customers their number one priority," said Trisha Gross, president and CEO of Hubspan. "In addition, as organizations continue to look for ways to deliver more business value from every IT dollar spent, the compelling TCO of cloud solutions will be a primary driver and justification to move more aggressively to the cloud."

EWeek said with more people online now than ever, consumers are more used to cloud computing-like platforms and the positive features they offer. This means it could be a very strong year for the cloud.
