A report recently released by the International Energy Agency signals the need for low-carbon technology, Business Green relays.

The report, titled Energy Technology Perspectives 2010, alerted IT leaders, politicians and consumers if greenhouse gas emissions don’t decline by 2020 to levels established by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, green initiatives may become ineffective, according to the report.

Some environmental experts state the results of the new survey signal more companies will begin shifting from conventional business practices to those that are more sustainable.

“Governments, investors and consumers around the world need to take bold steps,” said Robert Bell, chief technical officer at environmental consultancy at AEA Technology, Business Green relays.

The IEA is calling for an increase in clean-energy technology from $165 billion annually in 2010 to $750 billion in 2030.

Businesses may look to increase their spending on sustainable IT solutions, such as cloud computing to help lower their carbon footprint and save on long-term costs. By using cloud services, companies no longer have to run and monitor their own infrastructure, but rather, can go through a vendor and system integrator, which can be much more efficient and less wasteful.ADNFCR-2553-ID-19876236-ADNFCR
