Microsoft hypes green implications of outsourcing IT
-
03/08/2010
Microsoft announced recently that its latest cloud computing offering Azure is now available in India, according to the Economic Times. One of the strongest features of the new product and all cloud computing, according to the software giant, is its implications for the environment and a company's bottom line. Organizations do not have to keep servers running at all times nor do they have to employ the staff required to maintain servers. The rise of cloud computing likely means that even as companies shed IT workers, talented web developers and computer programmers will be able to find work with companies operating cloud computing services. As always, Microsoft has been forced to answer questions related to the desktop security of its cloud computing offerings. "Keeping the customers' confidence would be the key to further cloud computing. We have actually gone threadbare on all the aspects of data security. We got all our facilities specifically audited to meet the security standards," Microsoft India group director Vikas Arora told the Times. To help prevent security breaches, governments have began boosting security requirements on companies who store sensitive information about customers or employees. Massachusetts recently required companies to have formalized programs in place and employ someone charged specifically with operating and maintaining desktop security protocol.
