Ixia, a global provider of converged network IT performance test systems, recently announced that it will use its newly developed iSimCity facilities to test technologies and rate them on their energy efficiency and commitment to the environment. The company is dedicated to providing clients with systems that reduce energy use without sacrificing performance, according to TMCNet. The company developed iGreen - a test and measurement solution - that helps users test the power consumption of a device at every stage of its use. The program is specially designed to simulate real-world conditions while testing a program. IT experts worried that some programs used to test energy use do not provide legitimate results because of poor testing techniques. "Network equipment manufacturers and service providers have an immediate need for repeatable, reliable, standards-based measurements of active energy consumption," Atul Bhatnagar, CEO of Ixia, told the news provider. "IxGreen provides exactly what's needed - energy per unit of performance at all levels of stress." Following a public criticism of cloud computing companies by environmentalist organization Greenpeace, Google and Microsoft announced separate plans to use hydropower from Washington's Columbia River Basin to power new data centers.
