Illinois is expecting a substantial increase in green IT jobs over the next few years, according to a recently released study entitled “IT Occupation Trends in Illinois.”

Green IT jobs are expected to increase by 12 percent in the Chicago area, while cloud computing and SaaS jobs are expected to grow by 9 percent, the Chicago Sun Times reports.

The study identified cloud computing as a new trend for Chicago businesses, finding that many companies will outsource their IT needs to web-based services that offer data backup and archiving options, according to the report.

Other categories expecting job growth are mobile specialists, security administrators, security specialists, project managers and help-desk technicians. Of the seven sectors listed in the report, green IT and cloud computing are expected to achieve the most gains.

Experts have recognized cloud computing as a tool for companies looking to become more energy efficient. By removing desktop applications and outsourcing storage to vendors, businesses can reduce their energy consumption and long-term costs. In addition, cloud computing enables companies to focus more on developing applications rather than wasting time dealing with data management responsibilities.ADNFCR-2553-ID-19847621-ADNFCR
