Cloud computing can make a significant contribution to the reduction of enterprise IT spending, according to a recent report from the Telegraph.
According to the report, services company Fujitsu recently adopted a comprehensive cloud-based IT solution, shifting essential data and applications to the cloud. The company chose to migrate to the cloud primarily in order to reduce spending, the report said.
By adopting cloud computing, Fujitsu was able both to reduce costs and increase productivity, according to the report. The company replaced an IT infrastructure that utilized a variety of separate virtual server environments.
Steve Ranaghan, systems strategy manager at Fujitsu, said cloud services are "scalable, robust and offer consistent performance," as well as offering a cost-effective pricing system. "The 'per person per month' pricing model means that the systems expenditure is aligned with business use and means that the systems are readily available to additional users as and when required," he said.
A growing number of companies are choosing to adopt cloud services. According to a recent Unisys poll, IT organizations view cloud computing as a top investment priority in 2011.
