A substantial number of organizations that have yet to move to the cloud cite security as the factor behind their decision to keep their on-site IT operations. Cloud computing companies have attempted to ease the concerns, but to no avail in many cases.
McAfee, a leading web security provider, recently announced the development of a desktop security program for companies that use cloud computing. The McAfee Cloud Secure Program combines security measures from the best of the industry into one item. Leading cloud computing providers Amazon and SuccessFactors will reportedly be the first vendors to use the program.
"McAfee is uniquely positioned to address security for the cloud given our technology, reputation and Cloud expertise. With the McAfee Cloud Secure program, we are adding peace of mind for those with cloud deployments, helping end users more easily evaluate and select a safe and secure vendor," Marc Olesen, senior vice president and general manager for McAfee SaaS, said.
McAfee's new service is one of the first major security announcements in cloud computing since RSA president Art Coviello's plea to the cloud computing community to improve security at the RSA Conference on March 1.
