Cloud computing in high demand
-
09/01/2010
A recent survey asked CIOs to explain what technologies they were most interested in implementing. Of the 300 respondents, 45 percent cited an interest in virtualization.
Reuters reports that the survey, which questioned leaders in the IT industry, found 57 percent put server virtualization on their list of exciting technologies. Mobile and wireless solutions were deemed important by 56 percent of respondents.
VMware president and CEO, Paul Maritz, recently told Tech News World businesses are moving towards virtualization at a faster rate each year. In a speech at the VMware company expo, Maritz pointed out that companies are moving away from hardware solutions and moving towards cloud computing to increase efficiency.
Maritz told the news source "the growth rate of virtual machines is 28 percent annually. This technology has touched the entire industry; it spans the globe."
In response to the recent growth of cloud computing, the need for IT security is expected to grow. Companies will no longer be able to base their protocols on hardware based benchmarks. As those physical barriers are removed in favor of virtualization, new security techniques will need to be developed.
